The spread of mobile terminal smartphones and tablet terminals is remarkable these days, but it is the social media of web services that has greatly helped the penetration of these terminals, and conversely, the number of users has increased significantly due to their spread. So how many people are actually using social media on which device? Based on the published values of the "Communication Usage Trend Survey" (*) announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in June 2021, the actual situation will be confirmed.
According to the results of this survey, nearly 50% of people use personal computers as a means of accessing the Internet, and 60% of mobile phones (both conventional mobile phones and smartphones combined). In addition, it is in the 20% range for tablet terminals.
Then, the web service "social media" that is indispensable on the Internet these days (here, not only SNS such as Facebook, Twitter, and mixi, but also LINE, which is generally recognized as social media, etc.) is included (also in the questionnaire). (There is a description). However, in the broad sense of social media, the corresponding blogs, bulletin boards, video posting / sharing sites are prepared as alternatives, so they are not included here), what kind of terminal is being accessed? .. I will confirm it.
The following graph shows the ratio of "people who use the Internet with the applicable model" to "people who use social media with the applicable model" (excluding those who did not respond to the service).
For example, 80.7% of tablet-type terminals show that this means that "80.7% of people who access the Internet using tablet-type terminals use social media." Note that it does not mean that "80.7% of social media users are tablet device users" and "80.7% of Internet users are using social media on tablet devices". In short, it shows the "access rate to social media among Internet users by each model".
PCs are 77.5%, and conventional mobile phones are 66.4%, which are low. And smartphones account for 80.2% and tablet terminals account for 80.7%, which is almost the same as tablet terminals. Surprisingly, TVs have a value of 83.6%, and even home video game consoles have a value of 81.9% ... Rather, TVs are somewhat larger, and all four terminals are almost side by side at the 80% level.
It should be noted that this case is a combined value both inside and outside the home, and as mentioned above, it is not the "ratio to all social media users" but the "ratio to Internet users on each terminal". Although it is necessary, the results confirm that smartphones and tablet terminals are more compatible with social media than personal computers, and that smartphones are more compatible with social media than conventional mobile phones.
The following graph confirms this with social media and similar services (social media in a broad sense).
The result is that there are often differences in the types of social media that are often used in each model and that are compatible with each other. The usage rate of social media in the narrow sense is higher on smartphones than on PCs, and the usage rate of e-mail is higher on PCs than on smartphones. You can also see that various social media services are used on TV.
Except for e-mail, the low value among conventional mobile phone users is unavoidable because the terminal function itself is low and may not be supported. Recently, there are many cases where the service is discontinued. On the other hand, it can be seen that TVs and home video game consoles are being used to use social media more than images.
In particular, video posting / sharing sites (YouTube, Nico Nico Douga, etc.) are calculated to be used by 70% of Internet users on both TVs and home video game consoles. In Internet access under these environments, it can be interpreted that video posting / sharing sites are more pervasive as communication services than social media such as Facebook and Twitter. However, in the case of video sharing sites, viewing is probably the main, and although it is a one-way aspect, it is a little forcible, but it is strongly recognized as a "video content station that users can freely search and select" and "on-demand TV station". I think it is.
